COPA SENDS CONDOLENCES TO CHICAGO POLICE OFFICERS

The Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) sends its condolences and prayers to the family of Officer Eduardo Marmolejo and Officer Conrad Gary, the Superintendent, Commander and Officers of the 5th District.

The officers who gave their lives last night did so while responding to the call to serve and protect the residents of the city of Chicago. This year the Chicago Police Department (CPD) lost several officers who gave their lives while on active duty and displaying great bravery. “As a resident of the city of Chicago I am often deeply moved when I hear of the loss of life under any circumstance,” said COPA Chief Administrator Sydney Roberts. “The event last night, the unfortunate incident at Mercy Hospital and deaths of other officers this year speaks to the loss CPD has endured and the level of commitment these men and women give each and every day. Saddened by their loss, we are indeed grateful for their service,” said Roberts.

As a civilian led oversight agency, COPA is committed to serving and supporting the city of Chicago and again sends its deepest regards to all affected by these tragic events.

The Civilian Office of Police Accountability serves as the civilian oversight agency for the Chicago Police Department and launched September 2017.
