The Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA), which serves as the civilian oversight agency of the Chicago Police Department (CPD), offers a series of learning opportunities throughout the year available to members of the public (civilian and sworn) through its COPA People’s Academy (CPA).

Interested individuals can learn about civilian police oversight, investigative and legal concepts, the role of COPA’s Policy, Research and Analyses Division (PRAD), and much more. For a detailed overview of the content covered, view the syllabus from Academy I here.

In April 2023, COPA People’s Academy I concluded. The agency anticipates hosting a second academy later this year in addition to a series of individual training modules throughout the year covering specialized topics. If you or your organization is interested in participating in the upcoming academy or a training module, please fill out an interest form below.
