COPA RELEASES VIDEO & OTHER MATERIALS FROM OFFICER-INVOLVED SHOOTING NEAR 2200 S. SACRAMENTO
Today, the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) released, to its website, video, and other materials of an officer-involved shooting near 2200 S. Sacramento. COPA investigators immediately responded to the scene and began the investigation.
On March 25, 2023, the Chicago Police Department (CPD) notified COPA of an officer-involved shooting. Based on preliminary information, four officers were on patrol when they were notified of shots fired nearby, and then observed a large group of individuals standing outside. Two of the officers exited their vehicle to patrol the block, while the other two officers continued to look for the other individuals from the earlier group.
One of the officers engaged with an individual nearby as a second officer continued to patrol on foot. As the second officer approached the rear back of a porch after hearing sounds on the stairs, they announced their office. Two juveniles were then taken into custody after officers recovered two handguns.
As officers stood in the alley, a group of unknown individuals appeared at the mouth of the alley. An unidentified member of the group fired towards officers and one officer discharged his weapon in the direction of the individuals. Officers ran after the group and placed two individuals under arrest. A weapon was recovered nearby.
