COPA PROVIDES STATEMENT ON VIDEO RELEASE OF OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING IN CTA GRAND RED LINE STATION

Today, the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) released video and other materials of the officer-involved shooting that took place in the CTA Grand Red Line Station on Friday, February 28th, 2020.

While critical steps remain, COPA’s investigation into the actions of the two officers are on-going. COPA is committed to conducting a full, thorough and objective investigation before reaching a determination of the appropriateness of the officers’ use of force and is also working in coordination with the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office (CCSAO).

Today’s release is consistent with COPA’s commitment to transparency and in accordance with the City’s Video Release Policy. Materials released include numerous body-worn camera, CTA surveillance, third party video and 911/OEMC audio.

As the civilian led administrative investigative agency of police misconduct, immediately following the incident, COPA recommended the two involved Chicago Police Department officers be relieved of police powers due to the serious nature of both officer’s actions and the Department concurred.

We ask for patience and cooperation from the community as we continue to investigate this incident.
