COPA RESPONDS TO OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING AT 2100 S. KEELER – 10TH DISTRICT

At approximately 8:45pm the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) was notified and responded to the scene of an officer involved shooting at 2100 S. Keeler in the 10th District.

Although in the early stages of our investigation we can confirm that the individual, who was a juvenile, attempted to flee the scene after officers were performing a traffic stop.

During the foot pursuit the officer encountered the individual and discharged their weapon. The subject has since died as a result.

COPA investigators remained on the scene and have launched a full investigation. As a part of its investigation COPA reviews all known and available video and other materials related to this incident. Investigators will also continue canvassing the area speaking to witnesses and searching for additional evidence.

As with all officer involved shootings, specifically that result in a fatality, COPA will work with the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office (CCSSAO) during the course of this investigation.
