COPA RELEASES VIDEO & OTHER RELATED MATERIALS IN THREE SEPARATE OFF-DUTY OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTINGS

Today, the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) releases video and other related materials of three off-duty officer involved shootings in accordance with the City’s 60-Day Video Release Transparency Policy.

On August 21, 2020, two off-duty Chicago Police Officers were the victim of an apparent armed car-jacking near 2500 S. King Drive resulting in one of the officer’s discharging their weapon. The offenders fled in the officer’s vehicle. There are no reported injuries and the offenders remain at large. On August 31, 2020, an off-duty Chicago Police Officer encountered a burglar. The suspects fled, leading to a foot pursuit. The officer discharged his firearm, however there are no known injuries. On September 15, 2020, shots were fired from a moving vehicle at an off-duty Chicago Police Officer who was travelling in his vehicle near 700 North Noble Street. The officer returned fire as the individuals continued to flee in their vehicle. There are no reported injuries and the offender(s) remain at large. COPA’s investigation into each officers use of deadly force is ongoing to determine if the actions are in accordance with Department Policy and Training.
