COPA RELEASES VIDEO & OTHER MATERIALS FROM OFFICER-INVOLVED SHOOTING

NEAR 7900 S. INGLESIDE

Today, the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) released materials related to an officer-involved shooting that occurred near 7900 S. Ingleside. Pursuant to a court order entered on March 18, 2026, in the case of People v. Pierre Davis, COPA was prohibited from releasing materials related to this incident. The court order was vacated on April 29, 2026, allowing for materials to be released.

On January 23, 2026, the Chicago Police Department (CPD) notified COPA of an officer-involved shooting. Preliminary information indicates this incident began when two on-duty CPD officers responded to a call of a domestic disturbance at a residence. Prior to officers arriving, there was an incident at the residence where the individual discharged their weapon, striking a victim inside the home. As officers arrived near the scene, they observed the individual who had just shot the victim walking on Ingleside and then turning into an alley. Officers followed in their vehicle and shortly after, there was an exchange of gunfire, and both officers discharged their weapons, striking the individual. The individual then ran through an empty lot, where they were eventually apprehended a short distance later by both officers. The individual was taken to the hospital in critical condition. A gun was recovered on scene.

COPA serves as the designated agency for the City of Chicago authorized to release video and other materials per the Consent Decree and the City’s Video Release Policy.
