Today, the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) released materials related to an officer-involved shooting that occurred near 30 E. Hubbard Street. COPA investigators immediately responded to the scene and began the investigation.
Pursuant to a court order entered on May 29th, 2025, in the case of People v. Demond Williams, COPA was prohibited from releasing materials related to this incident. The court order is no longer in effect, therefore allowing materials to be released.
On April 7, 2025, the Chicago Police Department (CPD) notified COPA of an officer-involved shooting. The individual fled from officers. Officers pursued and attempted to de-escalate the situation and then deployed their tasers towards the individual. The individual continued to disregard verbal commands and turned toward officers still holding the knife. Two officers then discharged their weapons, striking the individual. The individual was taken to the hospital in critical condition. Two officers were taken to a hospital for observation. A knife was recovered on scene.
