COPA RELEASES VIDEO & OTHER MATERIALS FROM FATAL OFFICER-INVOLVED SHOOTING NEAR 800 N. WALLER
Today, the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) is releasing video & other materials from a fatal officer-involved shooting that occurred near 800 N. Waller Avenue. COPA investigators immediately responded to the scene and began the investigation.
On September 6, 2025, the Chicago Police Department (CPD) notified COPA of an officer-involved shooting. Preliminary information indicates this incident began when CPD officers responded to a call of a burglary in progress, where the individuals involved in the burglary were reported to be in a vehicle. CPD officers encountered the vehicle, and the vehicle struck marked Chicago Police vehicles. An officer then discharged their weapon, striking one of the individuals. The individual who was shot was transported to the hospital and pronounced deceased. A second individual was placed in custody and transported to the hospital in good condition A third individual fled the scene and is not in custody. Two CPD officers were transported to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. A gun was recovered on scene.
COPA serves as the designated agency for the City of Chicago authorized to release video and other materials per the Consent Decree and the City’s Video Release Policy.
