Today, the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) released, to its website, video, and other materials of a fatal officer-involved shooting near 3800 W. Flournoy. On April 15, 2023, the Chicago Police Department (CPD) notified COPA of an officer-involved shooting. Based on preliminary information, the incident began when two officers engaged a group of individuals in the 3800 block of West Flournoy Street. As the officers exited their vehicle, one individual began to walk away. The individual then fled and was pursued on foot by the two officers. The individual fled through a gangway and into a backyard and then into another gangway with no ability to exit. The individual turned back to exit the gangway, in the direction of the officers, which led to one officer discharging their weapon striking the individual, who later succumbed to his injuries. The individual was in possession of a firearm, which was recovered on scene.
