COPA RELEASES VIDEO & OTHER MATERIALS FROM FATAL OFFICER-INVOLVED SHOOTING NEAR 1400 E. 75th ST
Today, the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) is releasing video and other materials related to a fatal officer-involved shooting near 1400 E. 75th Street. COPA investigators immediately responded to the scene and began the investigation.
On May 5, 2025, the Chicago Police Department (CPD) notified COPA of an officer-involved shooting. Preliminary information indicates this incident began when CPD officers responded to a call of a person with a knife inside an assisted living facility. After officers entered the building, they encountered an individual armed with a knife inside their apartment. Officers attempted to de-escalate the situation and then deployed their tasers towards the individual. The individual continued to disregard verbal commands and rushed toward an officer while swinging the knife. Two officers discharged their weapons, striking the individual multiple times. The individual was pronounced deceased on scene. The officers were not injured during the encounter. A knife was recovered on scene.
