Today, the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) released, to its website, video, and other materials of an officer-involved shooting near 9900 S. Ewing Ave. COPA investigators immediately responded to the scene and began the investigation.

On September 2, 2023, the Chicago Police Department (CPD) notified COPA of an officer-involved shooting. Preliminary information indicates that this incident began when two on-duty Chicago Police officers responded to a person with a gun. When the officers arrived, they encountered two individuals. When the officers attempted to engage with one of the individuals as they were walking away, they turned and pointed a firearm in the direction of the officers. Both officers then discharged their firearms in the direction of the individual, who then fled on foot. At this time, the individual has not been identified. A gun was recovered near the scene.

COPA has released to its website for the officer-involved shooting: body-worn camera (BWC), third-party and POD (Police Observation Device) video, OEMC Transmissions, Case Incident and Tactical Response reports, which can be viewed by visiting: https://www.chicagocopa.org/case/2023-0004040/
