COPA RELEASES VIDEO & OTHER MATERIAL FROM FATAL INCIDENT NEAR 800 SOUTH CICERO AVENUE

Today, the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) released, to its website, video, and other materials of a recent fatal incident that occurred as a result of police action near 800 S. Cicero Ave. COPA investigators immediately responded to the scene and began the investigation.

On December 12, 2023, the Chicago Police Department (CPD) notified COPA of a fatal incident as a result of police action. Preliminary information indicates that this incident occurred when two on-duty Chicago Police officers in an unmarked police vehicle spotted a stolen vehicle in a parking lot. After observing the vehicle, the officers drove into the parking lot and engaged the individual who was standing outside of the vehicle.

The individual immediately fled on foot and shortly thereafter, was struck by the rear end of a passing semi-trailer. The individual was transported to the hospital and was pronounced deceased. A gun was recovered from the scene.
