COPA RELEASES RECORDINGS FROM OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING AT 9315 S. PAXTON

Today, the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) posted on its website (https://www.chicagocopa.org/case/2020-3249/) recordings and other materials from an officer-involved shooting that took place at 9315 S. Paxton on Saturday, July 18th, 2020.

COPA’s investigation determined that an off-duty police officer encountered two subjects, one of who was armed, in front of his house when he was arriving home. After the subjects demanded his keys, the officer discharged his firearm with the subject returning fire. The subjects then fled and have not been taken into custody.

COPA’s investigation is ongoing and the agency will determine the appropriateness of the officer’s actions in accordance with the Chicago Police Department use of force policy after a thorough and objective investigation. Today’s release is consistent with COPA’s commitment to transparency.
