COPA RELEASES MATERIALS RELATED TO AN OFF-DUTY OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING NEAR 2800 W. GRACE

 

Today, the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) released materials related to an off-duty officer-involved shooting that occurred December 6, 2022, near 2800 W. Grace. COPA investigators immediately responded to the scene and began their investigation.

Based on preliminary information the incident began when an off-duty officer observed two suspicious vehicles near 2800 W. Grace Street. The officer approached the vehicles and identified himself as a police officer. An unknown individual from within one of the vehicles pointed a firearm in the officer’s direction. Upon observing the firearm, the off-duty officer discharged his firearm twice in the direction of the unknown individual.  Both vehicles fled the scene, and it is unknown if anyone sustained injuries as a result of the shots fired by the off-duty officer.
