COPA RELEASES MATERIALS OF OFF-DUTY OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING NEAR 3100 W. BELLE PLAINE

Today, the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) released materials of an off-duty officer-involved shooting which occurred March 31, 2021, near 3100 W. Belle Plaine.

The incident began when an individual attempted to make forcible entry into the off-duty officer’s residence. The off-duty officer, who was in his apartment, engaged the individual, which resulted in the officer discharging his firearm. The individual was struck once and later brought to Illinois Masonic Hospital in stable condition.

A court order entered on May 19, 2021, prohibited COPA from the release of materials in accordance with the City’s Video Release Policy. The court order was rescinded on October 26, 2021. Materials released include responding officers’ body-worn camera video, third-party video, OEMC Transmissions, Case Incident, Tactical Response, and Arrest Reports, which can be viewed by visiting www.chicagocopa.org/2021-1162.
