COPA PROVIDES UPDATE ON OFFICER-INVOLVED SHOOTING NEAR 7000 S. CHAPPEL AVE
Today, the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) is providing an update regarding an officer-involved shooting that occurred near 7000 S. Chappel Avenue. COPA investigators immediately responded to the scene and began the investigation.
On August 15, 2025, the Chicago Police Department (CPD) notified COPA of an officer-involved shooting. Preliminary information indicates this incident began when two CPD officers observed an individual discharging a firearm in the direction of another individual. Responding officers observed the armed individual flee on foot and both officers pursued the individual. The officers gave verbal commands to the individual and one of the officers then discharged their firearm. It was later determined that the armed individual was struck by gunfire. No one is in custody at this time.
COPA can confirm body-worn cameras captures the initial interaction and subsequent shooting. Materials related to this incident will be posted to our website in accordance with the City’s Video Release Policy within 60 days of the incident unless prohibited by court order.
