COPA PROVIDES UPDATE ON OFFICER-INVOLVED SHOOTING NEAR 4300 S. CHAMPLAIN AVE
Today, the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) is providing an update regarding an officer-involved shooting that occurred near 4300 S. Champlain Avenue. COPA investigators immediately responded to the scene and began the investigation.
On June 26, 2025, the Chicago Police Department (CPD) notified COPA of an officer-involved shooting. Preliminary information indicates this incident began when CPD officers responded to a call of a large gathering of people. As officers dispersed the group, one of the officers engaged with an individual who pushed the officers’ hands away. The individual fled the scene, and a brief foot pursuit ensued. The individual ran around a building and another officer discharged their firearm once, which did not strike anyone. The individual was placed into custody.
COPA is prohibited from releasing video and other materials in accordance with the Juvenile Court Act (705 ILCS 405/5-905(5)). COPA is committed to a full and thorough investigation into the officers’ use of force to determine if their actions were in accordance with Department policy and training.
