COPA PROVIDES UPDATE ON OFFICER-INVOLVED SHOOTING NEAR 30 E. HUBBARD ST

Today, the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) is providing an update regarding an officer-involved shooting that occurred near 30 E. Hubbard Street. COPA investigators immediately responded to the scene and began the investigation.

On April 7, 2025, the Chicago Police Department (CPD) notified COPA of an officer-involved shooting. Preliminary information indicates this incident began when CPD officers observed an individual known to have an outstanding warrant, who they later observed was armed with a knife. The individual fled from officers. Officers pursued and attempted to de-escalate the situation and then deployed their tasers towards the individual. The individual continued to disregard verbal commands and turned toward officers still holding the knife. Two officers then discharged their weapons, striking the individual. The individual was taken to the hospital in critical condition. Two officers were taken to a hospital for observation. A knife was recovered on scene.

COPA can confirm body-worn cameras and 3rd party video captures the initial interaction and subsequent shooting. Materials related to this incident will be posted to our website in accordance with the City’s Video Release Policy within 60 days of the incident unless prohibited by court order.
