COPA Provides Update on Officer-Involved Shooting Near 2900 W. 47th Street

COPA PROVIDES UPDATE ON OFFICER-INVOLVED SHOOTING NEAR 2900 W. 47th Street

Today, the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) is providing an update regarding an officer-involved shooting that occurred near 2900 W. 47th Street. COPA investigators immediately responded to the scene and began the investigation.

On April 25th, 2026, the Chicago Police Department (CPD) notified COPA of an officer-involved shooting. Preliminary information indicates this incident began when four officers in an unmarked CPD vehicle attempted to initiate an investigatory stop of a vehicle. The vehicle fled, and officers began a brief pursuit, during which multiple shots were fired from the pursued vehicle toward the officers’ vehicle. The vehicle crashed in an alley a short time later, and there was an exchange of gunfire between one officer and an individual in the vehicle. An individual inside the vehicle was apprehended immediately and two additional individuals fled the scene and were apprehended nearby. One officer was taken to the hospital for observation. Two weapons were recovered on scene.

COPA is prohibited from release of video and other materials in accordance with the Juvenile Court Act (705 ILCS 405/5-905(5)). COPA is committed to a full and thorough investigation into the officer’s use of force to determine if their actions were in accordance with Department policy and training.
