COPA Provides Update on Officer-Involved Shooting Near 1400 W. Argyle

COPA PROVIDES UPDATE ON OFFICER-INVOLVED SHOOTING NEAR 1400 W. ARGYLE ST.

Today, the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) is providing an update regarding an officer-involved shooting that occurred near 1400 W. Argyle St. COPA investigators immediately responded to the scene and began the investigation.

On June 15, 2026, the Chicago Police Department (CPD) notified COPA of an officer-involved shooting. Preliminary information indicates this incident began when on-duty CPD Officers responded to a call of shots fired involving two individuals who were engaged in a verbal altercation which led to one shooting the other. The shooting individual fled on foot, and responding officers identified them in the area via a description of their clothing given through police communications. As officers pursued on foot, they observed the individual had a weapon. After giving multiple verbal commands, three officers discharged their firearms, striking the individual, who was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition. The shooting officers were also taken to a hospital for observation. A firearm was recovered on scene.

COPA can confirm body-worn camera captured the initial interaction and subsequent officer-involved shooting. Materials related to this incident will be posted to our website in accordance with the City’s Video Release Policy within 60 days of the incident unless prohibited by court order.
