COPA PROVIDES UPDATE ON OFFICER-INVOLVED SHOOTING NEAR 13000 S. EVANS AVE

Today, the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) is providing an update related to a recent officer-involved shooting near 13000 S. Evans Avenue. COPA investigators immediately responded to the scene and began the investigation.

On January 17, 2024, the Chicago Police Department (CPD) notified COPA of an officer-involved shooting. Preliminary information indicates that this incident began when two Chicago Police officers in a marked police vehicle responded to a report of shots fired.

As their vehicle approached, an individual on foot discharged a firearm in the direction of the officers, resulting in both officers returning fire. Neither the individual nor the officers were struck by gunfire. The individual was located and arrested without incident. A gun was recovered on the scene.

COPA can confirm body-worn camera captures the initial interaction and subsequent shooting. Materials related to this incident will be posted to our website in accordance with the City’s Video Release Policy within 60 days of the incident unless prohibited by court order.
