On June 9th, 2026, the Chicago Police Department (CPD) notified COPA of an officer-involved shooting. Preliminary information indicates this incident began when a Chicago Police Officer assigned to a task force was assisting the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) in an operation located in Country Club Hills. During the operation, several individuals approached a vehicle in which ATF agents sat and attempted a robbery. One ATF agent discharged their weapon in the vehicle and struck one of the individuals. The CPD officer observed the attempted robbery and began a vehicle pursuit in an unmarked vehicle of one of the individuals. Both the officer and individual exited their vehicles and shortly thereafter, the officer discharged their weapon, striking the individual. The two individuals were taken to area hospitals, and an officer was taken to the hospital in good condition. Three weapons were recovered on scene.
COPA is working with the Illinois State Police (ISP) to confirm whether third party video captures the officer-involved shooting.
