COPA PROVIDES UPDATE ON OFF-DUTY OFFICER-INVOLVED SHOOTING NEAR 1600 E. 95th ST 

Today, the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) is providing an update related to a recent off-duty officer-involved shooting near 1600 E. 95th Street. COPA investigators immediately responded to the scene and began the investigation.

On February 6, 2024, the Chicago Police Department (CPD) notified COPA of an off-duty officer-involved shooting. Preliminary information indicates that this incident began when an off-duty Chicago Police officer was at a gas station in his personal vehicle when another vehicle entered the parking lot, pulling behind the officer’s personal vehicle. An individual exited their vehicle and fired at the off-duty officer, who then returned fire. Neither the individual nor the officer were struck by gunfire. No one is in custody and no weapon was recovered on scene.

COPA can confirm third-party video captures the interaction and subsequent shooting. Materials related to this incident will be posted to our website in accordance with the City’s Video Release Policy within 60 days of the incident unless prohibited by court order.
