On October 4, 2026, the Chicago Police Department (CPD) notified COPA of an off-duty officer-involved shooting. Preliminary information indicates this incident began when an off-duty CPD officer was driving in the 2600 block of West 24th Street and encountered a group of individuals. One individual was struck by gunfire and was taken to the hospital, while an additional individual was taken to the hospital for injuries related to the incident. The off-duty officer was also taken to the hospital for minor injuries and released in good condition.
