COPA PROVIDES UPDATE ON NON-FATAL OFFICER-INVOLVED SHOOTING IN ENGLEWOOD

On Sunday, August 9th, COPA responded to a non-fatal police-involved shooting in the 5600 block of South Aberdeen. Preliminary investigative efforts have determined that officers received a call of a man with a gun. The officers located an adult male walking east bound on 57th and Racine matching the physical description and attempted to stop the subject resulting in a pursuit of the individual.

Early information indicates the subject discharged a firearm at the officers which resulted in two CPD officers returning fire, striking the subject. The subject was transported to a local hospital where he is in stable condition.

COPA’s investigation into this incident is currently ongoing. Responding COPA investigative personnel have begun reviewing available video evidence, canvassing and gathering other relevant materials.

As the civilian led oversight body for the Chicago Police Department responsible for administrative investigations, COPA is committed to conducting a thorough investigation to determine if the actions of the involved officers were within Department policy.
