COPA PROVIDES UPDATE ON FATAL OFFICER-INVOLVED SHOOTING NEAR 300 S. CICERO AVE
Today, the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) is providing an update regarding a recent fatal officer-involved shooting that occurred near 300 S. Cicero Avenue. COPA investigators responded to the scene immediately and commenced an investigation.
Preliminary information indicates this incident began when two Chicago Police officers were flagged down and observed an individual attempting to stab a victim in the street. The officers exited their vehicle and gave verbal commands to the individual to drop their weapon. The individual failed to comply with the commands, proceeded to stab the victim repeatedly and two officers discharged their firearms, striking both the individual and victim. The individual was transported to the hospital and pronounced deceased. The victim was also transported to the hospital and is listed in critical condition.
COPA can confirm that body-worn camera footage and third-party video captures the initial interaction and subsequent shooting. Materials related to this incident will be posted to our website in accordance with the City’s Video Release Policy within 60 days of the incident, unless prohibited by court order.
