COPA PROHIBITED FROM RELEASING VIDEO & OTHER MATERIALS OF THE OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING INCIDENT NEAR 2100 W. ADAMS

 

This week, the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) received and posted to its website (https://www.chicagocopa.org/case/2022-0003421/) a court order prohibiting the release of video and other materials pertaining to the officer involved shooting which occurred on August 12, 2022, near 2100 W. Adams. Based on preliminary information, the incident began when members of the Department monitoring a Police Observation Device (POD), observed an individual wielding a firearm. Officers responded to the location and one officer discharged their weapon, striking the subject, who was taken to the hospital. A gun was recovered on scene.

Pursuant to the court order entered on October 7, 2022, the Civilian Office of Police Accountability and all other city entities are currently prohibited from releasing materials relative to this incident under the City’s Video Release Policy and the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) during the pendency of the criminal matter.

COPA remains committed to transparency and is conducting a full analysis and investigation of the incident. Body worn camera, third party video and other materials related to this incident will be released upon the lifting of the Judge’s court order.
