COPA INVESTIGATES RECENT INCIDENT CAPTURED ON VIDEO

Today, the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) initiated an investigation after receiving notification from the Chicago Police Department regarding a recent widely circulated video of two Chicago Police Officers restraining and striking an individual repeatedly.

Initial information reviewed indicates officers were attempting to conduct a field investigatory stop of an individual believed to be in possession of a firearm, ultimately leading to a foot pursuit. While attempting to place the individual in custody he was struck several times by an officer.

COPA is in the preliminary stages of the investigation, including the review of available body worn and third-party video, and will conduct officer and civilian interviews as well as gather other evidence pertaining to the incident.

If anyone witnessed this incident or has additional information, please contact our office at 312-746-COPA (2672) or visit our website at ChicagoCOPA.org. Any additional video can be sent to COPA-Info@chicagocopa.org or tag us to your video on Twitter @ChicagoCOPA.

COPA is committed to conducting a fair and thorough investigation to determine if the actions of the involved officers are within Department policy.
