COPA INVESTIGATES OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING AT THE 25TH DISTRICT

Today the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) responded to an officer involved shooting at the 25th District Police Station. Preliminary investigative efforts have determined a Chicago Police Officer transported a detainee who then discharged his weapon wounding two officers. Three officers returned fire also wounding the offender during the exchange.

COPA’s investigation into the use of force is already underway. Responding COPA investigative personnel have begun reviewing body worn camera and gathering other evidence and relevant materials.

As the civilian led oversight body for the Chicago Police Department responsible for administrative investigations, COPA is committed to conducting a thorough investigation to determine if the actions of the involved officers were within Department policy.
