COPA PROVIDES UPDATE ON OFFICER-INVOLVED SHOOTING NEAR 111th PLACE

Today, the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) is providing an update regarding an officer-involved shooting that occurred near 111th Place. COPA investigators immediately responded to the scene and began the investigation.

On October 9th, 2025, the Chicago Police Department (CPD) notified COPA of an officer-involved shooting. Preliminary information indicates this incident began when CPD officers observed two individuals riding a scooter on the sidewalk who matched the description from a special bulletin related to robberies in the area. As officers emerged from their marked vehicle, both individuals fled on foot. The officers gave chase and encountered one of the fleeing individuals, who appeared to have a weapon in their hand. An officer gave verbal commands to drop the weapon, as the individual again attempted to flee by running between the two officers. One of the officers then discharged their firearm, striking the individual, who was then taken to the hospital in good condition. The discharging officer was also taken to the hospital for observation.

COPA can confirm body-worn cameras captures the initial interaction and subsequent shooting. Materials related to this incident will be posted to our website in accordance with the City’s Video Release Policy within 60 days of the incident unless prohibited by court order.
