Weekly Spotlight: Youth Budget Engagement Round Tables & more

COPA had a great time engaging the residents of Chicago in the community during the week of 06.22.26. This week our Public Affairs team was in the Austin, New City, Loop, Belmont Cragin, Humboldt Park, and Lake View communities.

Our office is committed to helping residents understand how to file a complaint or compliment an officer and explain to the public our role in police oversight. Below is a brief description of our most recent community engagement efforts. National Immigrant Heritage Month Celebration – June 24, 2026

COPA had a great time joining Mayor Brandon Johnson and the Office of Immigrant, Migrant, and Refugee Rights at the National Immigrant Heritage Month Celebration at the Colombus Park Refectory. The celebration included performances, delicious treats, and celebrated community leaders in the work for our immigrant, migrant, and refugee neighbors. COPA attended this event to connect with our various community partners and engage them around our role in police accountability.

Budget Engagement Round Tables – Chicago Park District Headquarters – June 16, 2026

The Office of Mayor Brandon Johnson and Chicago’s Office of Budget and Management organized a series of Budget Engagement Forums across the City to listen to residents about their priorities and ideas for Chicago’s 2027 budget. COPA Director of Public Affairs Carlos Rivas Jr.  facilitated dialogue in Spanish with Chicagoans and let them share their ideas on any topic relating to the City’s budget.

Youth Budget Engagement Round Tables – June 25, 2026

The Office of Mayor Brandon Johnson and Chicago’s Office of Budget and Management organized a series of Budget Engagement Forums across the City to listen to residents about their priorities and ideas for Chicago’s 2027 budget. COPA’s Chief Administrator LaKenya White & First Deputy Chief Administrator Josh Hunt joined Mayor Brandon Johnson to facilitate dialogue with hundreds of young people from various communities of Chicago and let their voices be heard on how to prioritize city resources in the 2027 budget.

Metropolitan Family Services Community Resource Fair – June 19, 2026

COPA had a great time attending the Metropolitan Family Services Community Resource Fair in the Belmont Cragin community. The event included activities, food, games, raffles, access to local resources. COPA was able to set up a resource table and give out information on filing complaints and compliments towards CPD.

New Life Centers Beloved Community Bash – June 19, 2026

COPA attended the New Life Centers Beloved Community Bash in the Humboldt Park community. The bash aims to bring safe spaces for young people and community to enjoy activities, food, and connect to local resources. COPA was able to set up a resource table and give out information on our role in police accountability.

Free to Be Proud 2026 Chicago Pride Parade – June 28, 2026

COPA Joined in on the celebration with Mayor Brandon Johnson and other city agencies at the Free to Be Proud 2026 Chicago Pride Parade. More than 1 million people gathered along the parade route to join in on the festivities and celebrate unity.
