Weekly Spotlight: West Side United Annual Community Convening and more

COPA had a great time engaging the residents of Chicago in the community during the week of 06.02.25. This week our Public Affairs team was in Humboldt Park, the Loop, Near West Side, Auburn Gresham, Belmont Cragin, and Austin communities.

Our office is committed to helping residents understand how to file a complaint or compliment an officer and explain to the public our role in police oversight. Below is a brief description of our most recent community engagement efforts. Cook County Health Community Resource Fair – June 5, 2025
COPA had a great time attending the Cook County Health and Department of Family and Support Services Community Resource Fair. This fair brough several community organizations to give out information on local programming. COPA was giving out information on how to file complaints and compliments for CPD.

 

National Immigrant Heritage Month Celebration – June 5, 2025
COPA Joined Mayor Brandon Johnson and the Office of Immigrant, Migrant and Refugee Rights at the National Immigrant Heritage Month Celebration at Harold Washington Library. The event brought together community to see cultural performances, learn about immigrant contributions, and hear from Mayor Johnson. COPA attend this event to connect with community residents and leaders about our role in police accountability.

 

West Side United Annual Community Convening – June 5, 2025

COPA attended the My Chi My Future Monthly Convener Meeting hosted by Beyond the Ball at La Villita Community Church. The meeting included training on adultism and creating youth centered safe spaces.   COPA attends these meetings to give out information about our role in police oversight.

Build We Wear Orange for a Future Free from Gun Violence March – June 6, 2025

COPA had an amazing time attending BUILD’s We Wear Orange for a Future Free from Gun Violence March in the Austin community. The march circled through the Austin community empowering community to join the call to end gun violence. The march also included a resource fair bringing community resources, activities, and food. COPA was able to set up a resource table and give out information on filing complaints and compliments towards CPD.

Take Back the Block – Auburn Gresham – June 6, 2025

COPA had joined Mayor Brandon Johnson at the Take Back the Block activation in the Auburn Gresham community. City agencies were on hand to support resident requests; there was also resources and activities. was able to set up a resource table and give out information on filing complaints and compliments towards CPD.

Northwest Side Community Development Corporation Dia del Nino Celebration – June 7, 2025

COPA had a great time at the Northwest Side Community Development Corporation Dia del Niño celebration at Blackhawk Park. This celebration included several activities for families, resource vendors, and sweet treats. COPA was able to set up a resource table and give out information on our role in police accountability.
