Weekly Spotlight: United in Pride Chicago Pride Parade and more

COPA had a great time engaging the residents of Chicago in the community during the week of 06.23.25. This week our Public Affairs team was in the Near West Side, Belmont Cragin, Jefferson Park, Humboldt Park, Uptown, Near North Side and Lake View communities.

Our office is committed to helping residents understand how to file a complaint or compliment an officer and explain to the public our role in police oversight. Below is a brief description of our most recent community engagement efforts. IMD LGBT Resource Fair – June 24, 2025

COPA had a great time attending the IMD LGBT Resource Fair on the Near West Side community. The fair brought together various resource organizations to give out information on local programming. COPA was able to set up a resource table and give out information on filing complaints and compliments towards CPD.

 

TASC/GEO Career and Resource Fair – June 25, 2025
COPA had an amazing time at the TASC/GEO Career and Resource Fair in the Near West Side community. The fair brought together various companies with their career opportunities and community organizations with resources. COPA was able to set up a resource table and give out information on our role in police accountability.

Northwest Community Alliance Meeting – June 26, 2025
COPA had a great time attending the Northwest Community Alliance Monthly Meeting hosted at Onward Neighborhood House Chicago. Our agency was able to meet with various not-for-profit organizations to discuss community resources that can be offered to Latino communities on the Northwest side of Chicago. This meeting also included a presentation from the City of Chicago’s Chief Homelessness Officer Sendy Soto, Marissa Arrez First Deputy of Immigrant Migrant and Refugee Rights, and Manny Whitfield Direct of Violence Prevention & Community Safety. During the meeting COPA also shared with meeting attendees the role that we play in police oversight.

Community Commission for Public Safety & Accountability (CCPSA) Monthly Meeting – June 26, 2025
COPA attended the monthly meeting of the Community Commission for Public Safety & Accountability (CCPSA) at the Copernicus Center in the Jefferson Park community. CCPSA holds a monthly community meeting to discuss updates to its agency and address concerns the public may have as it relates to affairs with CPD, Police Board and COPA.

Chicago Council of Lawyers Annual Policy Accountability Forum – June 27, 2025

COPA Interim Chief Administrator LaKenya White participated in the Chicago Council of Lawyers Annual Police Accountability Forum in the Near North Side community. The discussion covered the state of police oversight in Chicago and was moderated by Sharon Fairley and included Loren Jones from Impact for Equity, Max Caproni from the Police Board, and Craig Futterman from the University of Chicago.

Beloved Community Bash – June 27, 2025

COPA attend the New Life Centers Beloved Community Bash at Harding Park in the Humboldt Park community. The bash aims to bring safe spaces for young people and community to enjoy activities, food, and connect to local resources. COPA was able to set up a resource table and give out information on our role in police accountability.

Mayor’s Budget Engagement Round Table at Truman College – June 28, 2024

The Office of Mayor Brandon Johnson and Chicago’s Office of Budget and Management organized a series of Budget Engagement Forums across the City to listen to residents about their priorities and ideas for Chicago’s 2026 budget. On Saturday, June 27th COPA’s Acting Deputy Chief Administrator Shannon Hayes and Director of Mediation Daisha Muhammad facilitated dialogue with Chicagoans and let them share their ideas on any topic relating to the City’s 2026 budget.

2025 United in Pride Chicago Pride Parade – June 29, 2025

 COPA Joined in on the celebration with Mayor Brandon Johnson and other city agencies at the 2025 United in Pride Chicago Pride Parade. Over 800,000 people gathered along the parade route to join in on the festivities and celebrate unity.
