Weekly Spotlight: TIP (Teens in the Park) Fest and more

COPA had a great time engaging the residents of Chicago in the community during the week of 08.25.25. This week our Public Affairs team was in the Clearing, Humboldt Park, Belmont Cragin, North Center, South Lawndale, and Oakland communities.

Our office is committed to helping residents understand how to file a complaint or compliment an officer and explain to the public our role in police oversight. Below is a brief description of our most recent community engagement efforts. City Clerk’s Mobile City Hall – Midway – August 26, 2025
COPA joined City Clerk Anna Valencia and other officials for the Mobile City Hall at Hale Park in the Clearing community. The City Clerk’s office, along with various other city departments, were onsite to connect city services directly to the community including obtaining a City Key ID, city stickers, and other permits. COPA was able to set up a resource table and share with the public the agency’s role in police accountability.

Oak Street Health Senior Resource Fair – August 27, 2025
COPA had a great time at the Oak Street Health Senior Resource Fair at the Kelly Hall YMCA. The fair included activities, food, and community organizations giving out information on local resources. COPA was able to set up a resource table and give out information on how to file complaints or compliments for CPD.

Northwest Community Alliance Meeting – August 28, 2025
COPA had a great time attending the Northwest Community Alliance Monthly Meeting hosted at Northwest Side Community Development Corporation. Our agency was able to meet with various not-for-profit organizations to discuss community resources that can be offered to Latino communities on the Northwest side of Chicago. During the meeting COPA also shared with attendees the role that we play in police oversight.

Community Commission for Public Safety & Accountability (CCPSA) Monthly Meeting – August 28, 2025
COPA attended the monthly meeting of the Community Commission for Public Safety & Accountability (CCPSA) at DePaul College Prep. CCPSA holds a monthly community meeting to discuss updates to its agency and address concerns the public may have as it relates to affairs with CPD, Police Board and COPA.

 

My Chi My Future Monthly Convener Meeting – August 29, 2025

COPA attended the My Chi My Future Monthly Convener Meeting hosted by Beyond the Ball. The meeting included training on adultism and creating youth centered safe spaces.   COPA attends these meetings to give out information about our role in police oversight.

Take Back the Block – Greater Grand Crossing – August 29, 2025

COPA had joined Mayor Brandon Johnson at the Take Back the Block activation in the Greater Grand Crossing community. City agencies were on hand to support resident requests; there were also resources and activities. COPA was able to set up a resource table and give out information on filing complaints and compliments towards CPD.

TIP (Teens in the Park) Fest – August 30, 2024
COPA had a great time attending Tip (Teens in the Park) Fest at Oakwood Beach.  The fest included food, live performances, activities, and community organizations that were giving our information on several resources and programming. COPA was able to set up a resource table and give out information about our role in police accountability.
