Weekly Spotlight: My Chi. My Future. Safe Spaces End of Summer Celebration and more

COPA had a great time engaging the residents of Chicago in the community during the week of 08.11.25. This week our Public Affairs team was in the Austin, Grand Boulevard, Loop, Belmont Cragin, and Humboldt Park communities.

Our office is committed to helping residents understand how to file a complaint or compliment an officer and explain to the public our role in police oversight. Below is a brief description of our most recent community engagement efforts. Leaders Network Monthly Community Meeting August 12, 2025

COPA attended the Leaders Network Community Monthly Meeting held in the Austin community that was comprised of faith and community leaders that work together to organize, strategize, and mobilize to improve the quality of life for the west side communities. This meeting included updates from Congressman Danny Davis. COPA attends these meetings to give out information on how to file complaints or compliments towards CPD.

City Clerk’s Mobile City Hall – Bronzeville – August 12, 2025
COPA joined City Clerk Anna Valencia and other officials for the Mobile City Hall Kick Off at Robert Taylor Park in the Grand Boulevard community. The City Clerk’s office, along with various other city departments, were onsite to connect city services directly to the community including obtaining a City Key ID, city stickers, and other permits. COPA was able to set up a resource table and share with the public the agency’s role in police accountability.

My Chi. My Future. Safe Spaces End of Summer Celebration – August 13, 2025
COPA joined Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson and Commissioner of the Chicago Department of Family & Support Services Angela Green at the Chicago Cultural center for the My Chi. My Future. Safe Spaces End of Summer Celebration. This celebration honors the work of young people and the My Chi. My Future. Safe Spaces organizations. Thousands of Chicagoans throughout the city participated in these youth-led, youth-planned events.

CICS West Belden Back to School Bash – August 15, 2025
COPA had a great time at the CICS West Belden Back to School Bash in the Belmont Cragin community. The event included school supply giveaways, food, and community organizations that were handing out info on resources. COPA was able to set up a resource table and give out information about our role in police accountability.

Summer Olympics on the Block – August 16, 2025
COPA had a great time at the 1000/1100 N. Harding Block Club Summer Olympics on the Block in the Humboldt Park Community. The event included food, entertainment, activities, and community organizations giving information on local resources. COPA set up a resource table to give out information on how to file complaints & compliments for CPD.
