Weekly Spotlight: Mikva Challenge Chicago Citywide Project Soap Box and more

COPA had a great time engaging the residents of Chicago in the community during the week of 01.12.26. This week our Public Affairs team was in Humboldt Park and Near West Side communities.

Our office is committed to helping residents understand how to file a complaint or compliment an officer and explain to the public our role in police oversight. Below is a brief description of our most recent community engagement efforts. If you are interested in COPA speaking to your community group or organization, please submit a request via email to COPA-PublicAffairs@chicagocopa.org

Winter Community Resource Fair – January 09, 2026

COPA had a great time attending the West Town Academy Resource Fair in the Humboldt Park community. The event was an opportunity for community partners to come together and learn about ways to partner with the West Town Academy community. Various community partners also toured the school and were able to learn firsthand from students on their audio studio, CNA, and carpentry programs. COPA was connecting with community partners and the West Town Academy to give information on our role in police accountability.

Mikva Challenge Chicago Citywide Project Soapbox – January 10, 2026

COPA had a great time attending the Mikva Challenge Chicago Citywide Project Soapbox in the Near West Side community. This event gives young people an opportunity to have a platform and present a speech on a topic from their lived experiences that are presently impacting them or their community.  Young people from throughout the city were able to share speeches on topics ranging from immigration, gun violence, public safety, mental health and more. As a Civic Partner COPA was able to support various groups giving their speeches by providing encouragement and feedback to participants speeches.
