Weekly Spotlight: Chicago Department of Family and Support Services Point-In-Time Homeless Count and more

COPA had a great time engaging the residents of Chicago in the community during the week of 01.19.26. This week our Public Affairs team was in Humboldt Park and the loop communities.

Our office is committed to helping residents understand how to file a complaint or compliment an officer and explain to the public our role in police oversight. Below is a brief description of our most recent community engagement efforts. If you are interested in COPA speaking to your community group or organization, please submit a request via email to COPA-PublicAffairs@chicagocopa.org

Chicago Department of Family and Support Services Point-In-Time Homeless Count – January 22, 2026

COPA Interim Chief Administrator Lakenya White attended the Chicago Department of Family and Support Services Point-In-Time Homeless Count alongside Supervising Investigator Wilbert Neal. They were assigned to the city’s central region and supported DFSS outreach teams to not only count homeless individuals, but provide hygiene kits, food, and coats. This count allows DFSS to strategize and identify where to provide services throughout the City of Chicago. The event kicked off with remarks from DFSS Commissioner Angela J. Green and Mayor Brandon Johnson, who both emphasized the importance of the count.
