Weekly Spotlight: BUILD We Wear Orange March for Peace South & more

COPA had a great time engaging the residents of Chicago in the community during the week of 06.01.26. This week our Public Affairs team was in the Near West Side, Austin, Grand Boulevard, and Uptown communities.

Our office is committed to helping residents understand how to file a complaint or compliment an officer and explain to the public our role in police oversight. Below is a brief description of our most recent community engagement efforts. Budget Engagement Round Tables – Malcolm X College – June 3, 2026

The Office of Mayor Brandon Johnson and Chicago’s Office of Budget and Management organized a series of Budget Engagement Forums across the City to listen to residents about their priorities and ideas for Chicago’s 2027 budget. Director of Mediation Daisha Muhammad facilitated dialogue with Chicagoans and let them share their ideas on any topic relating to the City’s budget.

Westside Minister Coalition – June 4, 2026

COPA was in Austin at the monthly Westside Ministers Coalition community meeting. One of the primary purposes of the meeting is to tackle various social issues & discuss ways attendees can bring about a positive change throughout the city. COPA attends these meetings to give out information on our role in police accountability and how to file compliments & complaints towards CPD.

Aetna Community Baby Shower – June 4, 2026

COPA had a great time attending the Aetna Community Baby Shower in the Grand Boulevard community. This event brought together a group of parents to be so they could receive information on local resources, free giveaways, and baby shower games with prizes! COPA was able to set up a resource table and give out information on how to file complaints and compliments for CPD.

BUILD We Wear Orange March for Peace – June 5, 2026

COPA had an amazing time attending BUILD’s We Wear Orange for a Future Free from Gun Violence March in the Austin community. The march circled through the Austin community empowering community to join the call to end gun violence. The march also included a resource fair bringing community resources, activities, and food. COPA was able to set up a resource table and give out information on filing complaints and compliments towards CPD.
