COPA RELEASES VIDEO & OTHER MATERIALS FROM OFF-DUTY OFFICER-INVOLVED SHOOTING NEAR 5600 W. LELAND AVE

Today, the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) is releasing video and other materials related to an off-duty officer-involved shooting near 5600 W. Leland Ave. COPA investigators responded to the scene immediately and commenced an investigation.

On November 19, 2024, the Chicago Police Department (CPD) notified COPA of an off-duty officer-involved shooting. Preliminary information indicates this incident began when an off-duty CPD officer observed a woman being attacked by an individual with a knife on the sidewalk. The off-duty officer approached and discharged their firearm striking the individual who then fled the scene. The individual was later located unresponsive inside a vehicle, transported to the hospital, and pronounced deceased. The off-duty officer also sustained an injury during the incident and was transported to the hospital in good condition.

COPA serves as the designated agency for the City of Chicago authorized to release video and other materials per the Consent Decree and the City’s Video Release Policy.
