Today, the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) is releasing video and other materials related to an off-duty officer-involved shooting that occurred near 4800 S. Bishop Street. COPA investigators immediately responded to the scene and began the investigation.
On August 3, 2025, the Chicago Police Department (CPD) notified COPA of an off-duty officer-involved shooting. Preliminary information indicates this incident began when an off-duty CPD officer was confronted by multiple armed offenders and an exchange of gunfire ensued. The armed offenders then fled the scene immediately after the incident. The officer sustained a minor injury and was transported to the hospital for observation. The off-duty officer was not struck by gunfire, and it is unknown at this time if any other individual was injured.
COPA serves as the designated agency for the City of Chicago authorized to release video and other materials per the Consent Decree and the City’s Video Release Policy.
