COPA RELEASES VIDEO & OTHER MATERIALS FROM OFF-DUTY OFFICER-INVOLVED SHOOTING NEAR 1000 S. MAYFIELD AVE

Today, the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) is releasing video and other materials related to an off-duty officer-involved shooting that occurred near 1000 S. Mayfield Ave.

On December 14, 2024, the Chicago Police Department (CPD) notified COPA of an incident involving two off-duty CPD officers. Preliminary information indicates this incident began when a vehicle occupied with five individuals, including two off-duty Chicago Police officers, was stopped in the 1000 block of S. CPD later notified COPA that one of the off-duty officers discharged a firearm during the incident. The off-duty officer has since been relieved of police powers by the Department as the investigation continues.

COPA serves as the designated agency for the City of Chicago authorized to release video and other materials per the Consent Decree and the City’s Video Release Policy.
