COPA RELEASES VIDEO & OTHER MATERIALS FROM FATAL TRAFFIC CRASH INCIDENT NEAR 3500 S. ASHLAND AVE
Today, the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) is releasing video and other materials related to a fatal traffic crash near 3500 S. Ashland Ave. COPA investigators responded to the scene the next day and began the investigation.
On October 1, 2024, the Chicago Police Department (CPD) notified COPA of a fatal traffic crash. Preliminary information indicates this incident began when on-duty CPD officers on patrol observed two individuals entering a sedan. As the officers attempted to investigate, the sedan fled, and officers followed. The sedan continued to the 3500 block of S. Ashland Ave., where the driver entered the intersection, collided with an SUV, and crashed into a building. The driver of the SUV sustained injuries and was transported to the hospital. The passenger of the sedan was ejected and pronounced deceased on scene. Two guns were also recovered on scene.
COPA serves as the designated agency for the City of Chicago authorized to release video and other materials per the Consent Decree and the City’s Video Release Policy.
