COPA RELEASES VIDEO & OTHER MATERIAL FROM OFF-DUTY OFFICER-INVOLVED SHOOTING NEAR 8000 S. SACRAMENTO

Today, the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) released, to its website, video, and other materials of an off-duty officer-involved shooting near 8000 S. Sacramento Ave. COPA investigators immediately responded to the scene and began the investigation.

On December 17, 2023, the Chicago Police Department (CPD) notified COPA of an off-duty officer-involved shooting. Preliminary information indicates this incident occurred as an off-duty Chicago police officer walked to their personal vehicle and was approached by three male offenders demanding the officer’s belongings. The officer complied and walked away from the vehicle while retrieving their weapon. One of the offenders followed the off-duty officer, and the officer then observed one of the offenders running towards them, pointing a firearm. The officer discharged their firearm in the direction of the offenders, who then fled on foot. There is no indication that anyone was struck by gunfire.
