COPA RELEASES VIDEO AND OTHER MATERIALS OF FATAL OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING NEAR 2600 S. RIDGEWAY AVENUE
Today, the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) released video and other materials of the fatal officer-involved shooting that took place on October 23, 2020, near the southwest corner of 26th Street and Ridgeway Avenue.
Materials released today include relevant body-worn video, OEMC transmissions, 3rd-party video, 911 calls, Shotspotter audio, and Case Incident and Tactical Response Reports which can all be viewed by visiting https://www.chicagocopa.org/case/2020-4833.
Preliminary information indicates officers were responding to shots fired and noticed a vehicle fleeing the area which subsequently crashed. The driver of the vehicle, Marc Nevarez exited with a firearm, a foot pursuit ensued and one Chicago Police Officer discharged his weapon striking Mr. Nevarez, who subsequently died as a result. An additional occupant in the vehicle was also taken into custody. Officers recovered one firearm near the deceased and another in the vehicle.
