COPA RELEASES MATERIALS FROM OFF-DUTY OFFICER-INVOLVED SHOOTING NEAR 2700 N. HALSTED
Today, the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) released, to its website, materials from an off-duty officer-involved shooting near 2700 N. Halsted Street. COPA investigators immediately responded to the scene and began the investigation.
On February 22, 2024, the Chicago Police Department (CPD) notified COPA of an off-duty officer-involved shooting. Preliminary information indicates that this incident began when an off-duty Chicago Police sergeant was driving his personal vehicle when two individuals on foot approached. The off-duty sergeant got out of their vehicle and reported they observed one of the individuals holding a handgun. The off-duty sergeant then discharged their firearm in the direction of one of the individuals, who then fled with the second individual. No one was struck by gunfire and no weapon was recovered on scene.
