COPA Provides Update On Officer-Involved Shooting Near 5800 S. Princeton Ave

 COPA PROVIDES UPDATE ON OFFICER-INVOLVED SHOOTING NEAR 5800 S. PRINCETON AVE 

Today, the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) is providing an update regarding an officer-involved shooting that occurred near 5800 S. Princeton Avenue. COPA investigators immediately responded to the scene and began the investigation. 

On August 27, 2025, the Chicago Police Department (CPD) notified COPA of an officer-involved shooting. Preliminary information indicates this incident occurred as CPD officers were conducting a burglary mission when they were alerted to individuals removing items from railcars. Officers then encountered an individual inside an SUV who accelerated towards the officers, resulting in an officer discharging their weapon as they were struck by the moving vehicle. The SUV continued driving, resulting in two additional officers discharging their weapon toward the individual, who then struck a marked squad car. The individual related to the crash was transported to the hospital in good condition. The officer who was struck was taken to the hospital in good condition and two additional officers were transported to the hospital for observation. No one was struck by gunfire. The individual is in custody. A gun was recovered from the scene. 

COPA can confirm body-worn cameras captures the initial interaction and subsequent shooting. Materials related to this incident will be posted to our website in accordance with the City’s Video Release Policy within 60 days of the incident unless prohibited by court order.
