COPA PROVIDES UPDATE ON OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING NEAR 4200 W. FORD CITY DR.

CHICAGO – On April 3, 2022, the Chicago Police Department notified the Civilian Office of Police Accountability of an officer involved shooting by a member of Chicago Police Department’s Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT).

Based on preliminary information, the incident began when the members of the Department responded to a call of a domestic disturbance. Officers entered the residence and found an adult female wounded on the floor. Officers engaged the suspect with verbal commands which resulted in the suspect discharging a firearm at the responding officers.

Members of the Chicago Police Department SWAT team were notified and engaged the suspect. After a series of conversations, the suspect threatened members of the Department’s SWAT team with a firearm. A SWAT officer then fired his weapon, fatally striking the suspect.

COPA investigators responded to the scene of the incident, immediately began their investigation and reviewed body-worn camera footage of responding officers and other involved officers. COPA can confirm body worn camera footage captures the initial interaction between the suspect and responding officers. However, members of SWAT are not equipped with body-worn cameras and therefore the fatal shooting is captured partially by a Chicago Police Officer’s body worn camera in the vicinity.

COPA is committed to full transparency. Materials related to this incident will be posted to our website in accordance with the City’s Video Release Policy within 60 days unless prohibited by court order.
