COPA PROVIDES UPDATE ON OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING NEAR 3300 W. OGDEN (10th DISTRICT POLICE STATION)

Today, the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) is providing an update on a recent officer-involved shooting near 3300 W. Ogden. COPA investigators immediately responded to the scene and began their investigation.

On October 5, 2022, the Chicago Police Department (CPD) notified COPA of an officer-involved shooting at 3315 W. Ogden inside the 10th District police station. Based on preliminary information, the incident began when an individual walked into the lobby of the 10th District station and approached officers sitting at the front desk.

The individual engaged in a conversation with officers, then pointed what appeared to be a firearm wrapped in a plastic bag, in the direction of officers. After officers gave verbal commands to drop the weapon, three officers discharged their weapons, striking the individual, who was taken to the hospital. It was subsequently determined that the weapon the individual pointed was a .117 Caliber BB Pistol.

COPA can confirm body-worn camera captures the initial interaction and subsequent shooting. Materials related to these incidents will be posted to our website in accordance with the City’s Video Release Policy within 60 days of each incident unless prohibited by court order.
