COPA Provides Update on Officer-Involved Shooting Near 3100 N Central Ave.

COPA PROVIDES UPDATE ON OFFICER-INVOLVED SHOOTING NEAR 3100 N. CENTRAL AVE

Today, the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) is providing an update regarding an officer-involved shooting that occurred near 3100 N. Central Avenue. COPA investigators immediately responded to the scene and began the investigation.

On May 31, 2025, the Chicago Police Department (CPD) notified COPA of an officer-involved shooting. Preliminary information indicates this incident began when CPD officers responded to a call of a battery in progress and shots fired outside a business. An employee directed officers to an individual, who was getting into a vehicle. As officers approached, they gave verbal commands to the individual to exit the vehicle. The individual did not comply and accelerated the vehicle in the direction of the officers, striking one officer. Two officers discharged their weapons toward the vehicle as the individual began to flee the scene. Officers located the vehicle and discovered the individual had been struck by the officers’ gunfire. The individual was transported to the hospital in critical condition. The officer who was struck was in good condition. A gun was recovered on scene.

COPA can confirm body-worn cameras captures the initial interaction and subsequent shooting. Materials related to this incident will be posted to our website in accordance with the City’s Video Release Policy within 60 days of the incident unless prohibited by court order.
